Spring cleanings – Talk about a dirty job…. The Pond Nerds of Long Island NY are ready to get down and dirty to provide a clean, healthy start to your water feature this spring. At the end of the pond season, we take great care in the proper method of winterization
A spring opening includes:
- Remove decaying leaves, blow away leaves from pond edge
- Clean skimmer basket, clean skimmer/bio falls pads
- Clean waterfall pump intake screen
- Full clean out of skimmer/bio falls
- Power washing rock/gravel
- Drain nitrogenous water and flush out muck
- Inspect fish health
- Addition of beneficial bacteria
- Addition of phosphate binder
- Addition of Bicarbonates, KH and Ph testing
- Addition of pond salt (if fish exhibit disease/infection)
- Maintain/fertilize aquatic plants (if applicable)
- Cover liner exposure
- Inspect lighting systems
- Change Ultraviolet bulbs (if applicable)
A fall closing includes:
- Clean skimmer basket, clean skimmer/bio falls pads
- Clean waterfall pump intake screen
- Disconnect pump/check valve assembly
- Remove decaying leaves, blow away leaves from pond edge
- Inspect fish health
- KH and Ph testing, addition of bicarbonates
- Addition of cold water beneficial bacteria
- Cut down dead/dying aquatic plants
- Cover liner exposure
- Net pond with a tenting method
- Add aeration system and de-icer
